When you see the New Primitives, you’re seeing a band that is a master at creating and maintaining a great vibe.
This group has been around since 2003, playing venues large and small, corporate events.
In most popular music bands, the singer is out in front of the rhythm section, out in front of the percussion. But there’s more of a marriage between vocals and percussion in the New Primitives.

There’s something very cool happening every Tuesday night in Northeast Minneapolis. For the past three years, New Primitives have been offering up their “unique brand of controlled chaos” in the form of percussion-forward funk, rock, reggae, and world music as part of their weekly residency at Shaw’s Bar and Grill.
The band is fronted by lead singer and drummer Stanley Kipper, a veteran musician from the Twin Cities who has also been part of the Southern California music scene and beyond. They also have a dedicated percussionist, Chico Perez, who compliments Stanley’s primary beats with rhythms and instruments from around the globe. In fact, at most shows every member of the band eventually plays some kind of percussion during their sets.
Whether you want to come out and dance, get a crash course in Afro-Cuban rhythms, or just sit back and be completely entertained, this band delivers the goods.

New Primitives was founded in 2003 by Stanley Kipper, a veteran drummer of the Southern California music scene. Leading up to the formation of the Prims, Stan had recorded or toured with legendary acts Jay Ferguson, Joe Walsh, The Bee Gees, Randy Meisner, Minnie Riperton, Andrew Gold, Karla Bonoff, Gypsy and Bill Withers, as well as acting as producer on many albums. He enlisted longtime friend, percussion expert, and former Gypsy bandmate Chico Perez. With Stan on Drums and lead vocals and Chico on Congas and Backing Vocals they formed the initial line-up of New Primitives.
The music is a mixture of Reggae/Ska, R&B, Afro Cuban, World Music, deep Funk and American Rock and Roll. Sometimes all played at the same time. New Primitive live shows are legendary, big fun, hypnotic, dance-filled events where the music is designed to bring the audiences deep into the groove. Prim’s bring a unique vibe unmatched by any of their contemporaries!

Make no mistake, New Primitives are a drum-forward band, both musically and visually.
